Labor Day Weekend Recap

So I was so excited to have no travel plans for the long weekend. Jay and I were thinking about walking down to check out First Saturday in The Heights and maybe sneaking into Hotel Zaza for some relaxing time by the pool and trying out some new restaurants. Sounds magical doesn't it?

So, what did we ACTUALLY do? After a lovely dinner at Lola's (a neighborhood favorite) I started to feel a bit under the weather. Then, like never. ever. ever. before. been. so. sick. ever. For the next three days I pretty much hung out in the bathroom chugging gatorade trying to decide if I was dying and if so should I go to the Emergency Room. In the end my cheap ways won out as I didn't want to have to pay for ER service just to be told I would live and to be sure and stay hydrated! After emerging from the haze I think I had food poisoning. I don't want to go blaming anybody but lets just say I won't be visiting Potbellies for a while which is a shame because I use to love it.

On Monday after noon Jay was golfing (against my wishes) and I started to feel better and decided I deserved a mani pedi to aid in the healing process. After making the trip I found that they were closed for Labor Day. AWESOME (for them). At this time I texted Jay declaring this the WORST WEEKEND EVER. Little did I know he was busy talking to a woman about this:

You know, for how much time J spends playing golf you would thing he would be better than this. Taking a step into the mind of an addict, his response was, "Well if you would have let me buy that $400 driver I have been asking for, my shot would have been much better and we wouldn't have to deal with this." I wish I was joking, or that he was joking. Sadly, that is not the case.

Considering the woman's Lexus has some sort of fancy shmancy sensor technology  in her windshield bringin the grand total to $460 it will be a long time until he get that new driver, much less steps foot on a golf course.

Can't WAIT to see what this weekend holds!

Peanut Butter Dip and a Cheese Ball (awesome tasting enough it should count)

Dip and I have a love hate relationship. I know hate and dip what? I just don't love anything too chunky or little green things in my food. Time and again I get to a party, have a big old dollop of dip on my plate and quietly work around the things in said dip I am unsure of. Then I get the comments and side eye from "friends". To them I say back off and try side dishes of the non little green things variety for once because I'm exhausted.


 
PEANUT BUTTER DIP
Blend 1 cup peanut butter, 1 cup brown sugar and 1 8 oz package of cream cheese together. You can add milk until desired creaminess.
Dipping with granny smith apples allows you to place this in the health food category for sure. 
 
This recipe is simple and got me through many a week while working at Pinecove Christian Camps in good ole Tyler, Texas.  Weekly bible study and my leaders peanut butter dip was my sanity. Not that being in charge of 8-10 8th grade girls non stop for 6 weeks straight would do that to a person . Or teaching sand volleyball from 1-4 in the afternoon. In the SUMMER. In EAST TEXAS.(Side note: if the children can still walk under the net, they will not be able to get the ball over the net.EVER). However, all of this helped me get to my lowest weight EVER. See, peanut butter dip=diet food.
 
CHEESE BALL (counts as dip because its awesome)
2pkg cream cheese
1pkg ranch seasoning
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
3/4 cup chopped pecans

*Let cream cheese soften then mix all ingredients together except pecans.
*Use wax paper to form into ball. Cover ball in pecans.
*Serve with chips, melba toast or whatever your heart desires!

Another simple recipe found via a bible study. Hallelujah, Amen.

In closing, it is imperative that you serve all items a side of guns....

Vacation Recap: We Survived Stingray City

First I would like to clarify that I know the difference between steel and steal despite what my last post might have you thinking. I may suck at spelling but gosh darn it i no my homonyms....
Moving on.

Two weeks has already passed since our last vacation. I thought I would share a few pictures from our adventures. We went to Grand Cayman with J's dad and step-mom. Now I had already experienced swimming with the Sting Rays during a cruise stop in college pre Steve Irwin tragedy. I wanted to do it again this trip but did find it a bit more frightening. Jay on the other hand found it TERRIFYING. Jay is many things but a risk taker, not so much. Exhibit A

Our honeymoon:

Seriously, the little girl didn't even speak English. She spent the rest of the trip sticking twigs in Jay's ears cracking up every time because he. would. freak. out. like it was a snake slithering into his ear canal to suck his brains out.

Back to Grand Cayman. Jay decided he would pay the $50 to ride on the boat and watch the rest of us with the stingrays. Once everyone on the boat (including 8 children ranging from ages three to seven) held the sting ray I look over and see Jay sticking his toe in the water to check it out! And then...... 

Doesn't he look like he is having a blast! Ah, memories.

Clearly I have been in a blogging slump. I don't know if it is so much of a slump because that would suggest there was a high point. And after reviewing my posts littered with run on sentences (like this one), incorrect punctuation and lame jokes, that is debatable.

Let's just call this blog a pathetic attempt at chronicling my life for others to see when I knew from the beginning I didn't have a way to upload pictures. Who reads a blog without pictures? NOT ME. This is when I began googling and finding random crap to post in lieu of pictures. It all went down hill from there. (Wait a sec, see there, high point)

Anyways, I am fully aware that pictures are not the only thing holding me back from blogging greatness but here I am to give it another try anyways. I am hoping I can blog on the ipad because our laptops are dead but last time I checked it couldn't be done on the ipad (serious side eye to my husband who claimed the ipad can do it all and more! psh please.)

I think one problem is I was trying to hard. Its like every post had to be re edited and re worked a thousand times. Obviously not for correct spelling. Anyways, I have like 5 posts half written and saved and I just got tired of writing so what made me think people wouldn't get tired of reading I'm not quite sure. After noticing most blogs just talk the basics, I am going to give that a try. So let me start with a breakdown of our weekend...

We went to San Antonio with our neighbors Joe and Lisa to stay and my in-laws. Lisa and I braved the outlet malls ON THE SATURDAY OF TAX FREE WEEKEND. Seriously people. I am so glad that Lisa had never experienced a Texas tax free weekend cause I don't think we would have gone because of the scars that can leave on a woman. However, we had great success and it wasn't even that busy until 1:00 when we were leaving. We bought way too many wonderful things but the purchase that made it all worthwhile?

(still trying to convince Jay $99.99 and no tax is a steel for these things. I mean it is right ladies?! thats over 1/2 off of something that just doesn't really go on sale! We were shocked!)

We then wound down with lounging at the pool and having drinks with the boys when they returned from golfing. As always Jay's mom cooked amazing food and then we played a hilarious and very informative game of trivial pursuit (which the Daniel's won-holla). My favorite new tidbit: Clowder=a group of cats. Who knew? Not even the crazy cat couple.

Last night J and I got wild and crazy by having a weeknight date! Ah the days of Thursday being the same thing as Friday and champagne Sat twice a week (*wink to ash black).  I just finished the book The Help and LOVED it...maybe even more than I LOVE Emma Stone herself. So J is took me to dinner and a movie. Awe so sweet of him, he loooves me sooo much. WHATEVER, I had to let him buy a $200 golf club first. My expert review? Book is way better. I thought too many key things were changed or left out. But it was still a good movie. I have decided I don't really like reading books then seeing the movie because the whole time I am comparing.

Well there you go, my first post back! Hopefully it won't be 10 months until I post again....

A few light hearted things and a few things on my heart...

1. We went and ate at a new place called Jus' Mac a week ago. It only serves mac n cheese and was so good. Yesterday for lunch I had some leftovers. I like to think I have an iron stomach and I hate when things go to waste (have I mentioned before I am cheap) so I figured almost a week old is no big deal....well....I found out this morning....all morning....it is. And my office could not be further from the bathroom and I was late for an early morning meeting cause as I was walking out the door to the apartment and thought, hu, my stomach kinda hurts.....20 min later I left the apartment. But how exactly do I explain to my boss I was late cause jus' mac and I ran 4 miles this morning and bad things happened and oh excuse me for a second, I will be right back....do you mind if I work in the cubical at the end of the hall next to the bathroom today? So for lunch today I will be going home and throwing the rest of it away. Probably along with the chicken fettuccine from Sunday and the Fajita meat from Saturday.... clearly we have an over ordering problem and the side effects are brutal. Sorry, TMI I know. Please keep reading, it gets much better, and not gross.



2. Tonight we are having a Thanksgiving Dinner Party. Jay made 4 pumpkin pies last night while I did the Turkey and Dressing. and by 'did' I mean ordered from Honey Baked Ham.



3. I get to see my whole family this weekend! My cousin, is getting married and I am super excited to have another girl in the family as most all my cousins are boys. It just so happens she is also one of the sweetest and cutest girls ever. Perfect for my cousin!



4. I got a new dress ($60 from White House Black Market on major sale cause I'm awesome) and Jay got a new suit (definitely not $60) for the occasion and he looks so nice and skinny too !! He continues to lift paper clips weekly and cut back on food intake and looses 10lbs/week. I continue to run 4 miles a day, eat salad only and loose 1 lb/quarter. JK, kinda.



5. Thanksgiving is in a week!!! I am sooooooooooo excited to go to the Ranch as it has been over a year since we have been (very unusual) but when you move to Houston and the ranch is 2 hrs NORTH of Amarillo, and you must use car, plane, another car horse and buggy to get there (or drive 13 hrs AND STILL BE IN TX) it makes it hard. I just hope that this time someone takes the gun away from the crazy uncle that's had a few too many after dinner. But if not I might end up on dateline special. The Day After Thanksgiving: A Texas Mystery. So that would be cool.



5. Christmas shopping, seeing the Nutcracker, Sunday School Christmas Party, Office Christmas Party, Christmas Light Driving with Hot Chocolate, Apartment present wrapping party, cutting down a Christmas Tree, and of course CHRISTMAS MUSIC is all around the corner. (although my mom has been playing Christmas music since I last visited her...for the Tech Baylor Game....)



6. The bible study I go to just finished our book on Ruth last night. I LOVED IT! A few take aways: It has me thinking often about giving 100% when I don't feel like it and that it's ok to pray for 'willingness to be willing' if you are not at that place. It might sound crazy but it really does work! Also, I want the legacy I leave behind to be based on making the choices God wants and not what I think is best, or most economical or what the world would tell me is best.



7. Prayers needed for my sweet friend and old mission trip buddy, Laura McDonald and her beautiful 6 month old baby girl. Laura's husband Johnathan was killed this week while working as a police officer around Post. My heart so hurts for her and I literally have been thinking about her constantly. I just can't imagine what she is going through but I am so thankful that we know where Johnathan is and that God knows what she is going through and will carry her.

5 Things I Learned in Ohio

1. It only takes a few glasses of Bourbon and a roomful of people my husband does not know and will never see again for him to become a crazy dancing machine....ok FOOL. However, you actually will see a bunch of those people the next morning at the free breakfast and they will all think you are their new bff and also look at your husband in pity cause they are sure he has hangover to rival Hiroshima. Little do they know he was not even buzzed the night before nor will you divulge that information because you are not sure what is more embarrassing.

2. If you elect to take the shuttle to and fro a wedding reception and carry a very small clutch, do not let your husband bring your rent car keys. You will have a good time. BUT You will not remember to pick up your keys along with your clutch as you leave. And then next morning you will have to take a taxi back to the reception spot, break in because it is closed and shift through their trash in the dark because their light switches are crazy electronic ones. The chances of you finding them will be slim to none.

3. The cost for a taxi to wait for you to sift through trash is $35. The cost to replace the key to a 2009 Nissan versa is $375. plus towing. And a ‘lost key’ fee. Oh and then you have to take a taxi to the airport. For a grand total of a billion dollars.

4. Jay and I will now be making each others Christmas presents.

I was asking for some new Christmas decor and maybe a nice bracelet.

5. As difficult as it is to find a key in the next days trash of an beautiful wedding reception for hundreds, we are sure would be much more difficult come across two people as wonderful, welcoming of us and as perfect for each other as the bride and groom. OHIO WEDDING TRIP 2010 WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY!

Good Thing my Husband Never Reads my Blog...or Checks our Bank Account....

So I have definitely been itching for weather a bit cooler even though it is currently perfect for a good run and laying out by the pool without sweating. I just really want to put my on boots and tights on for church and not find 90% of the girls still wearing summer dresses and sandals. Who can blame them, the high is still mid 70ies to 80? But who can blame me when things like this have found their way into my closet the past few weeks:

I got this coat in grey but I saw this in a super cute red worn by the girl we all use to love to hate and now don't care about anymore. Problem is I got a short red coat for Christmas last year from my super stylish mom who kept telling me I should look at longer coats and I didn't listen and now here I am.

I have to say the main fad I am currently having trouble with (besides tights and open toe heels) is the Jeggins. Or as my husband would say 'Jeanageens'. I hear they are comfy so maybe I should give them a try but J HATES them. In his defense the first pair he saw were the tightest pants I have ever seen. He literally was freaking out cause he thought he was seeing one of those painted ladies they have at fancy Vegas shows and Playboy mansion parties....but we were at Thai Cottage. I had to continually assure him they were Jeggings. And that Jeggings are pants. And OH MY GOSH THEY ARE JEGGINS NOT JEANAGEENS JUST STOP TALKING HUSBAND.

The Biggest problem was not they tight, but they were acid wash.

I honestly thought the girl was stylish enough to kinda pull it off. You know the type, you would NEVER wear it but you could she how she thought it worked and clearly makes bold statements like this often. But they were to tight.

On our drive home Jay made me promise to never purchase a pair"Jeanageens" Little does he know that's impossible. CAUSE THAT'S NOT A REAL THING.

Party Time

Jay and I are throwing a Halloween Dress Rehearsal Party Party tonight for our apt. (Go CARES!) Why are we throwing a Halloween Dress Rehearsal Party Party instead of just a a Halloween Dress Rehearsal Party? Well cause lets just say our strong suit isn't graphic design....or editing....enter our fliers:

After flyering 300 doors and then finding our little mistake I said, hey I know God can work in mysterious ways so a freggin' Party Party it is...

Luckily our strong suit is the food. Well, Jay's strong suit. I would have to say my niche is putting out the plates an napkins. This time was unusual because I actually planned most of the menu (for Jay to cook). I was just finding so many cute Halloween inspired things out in blog land I decided to create a proposal to present to Jay. He usually has all the say in what is being cooked well because he has to do it but you see the title of the email in which i sent my proposal said:

LOOK WHAT I DID! Complete with list and duties assigned. No changes allowed.

And he said ok. cause that's how marriage works. Ok not really. Ok really not really with Jay but that is a story for another time titled 'the necessity of warming your pancake syrup for your party guests...and how crazy a man can get when his woman buys syrup too big to fit in the microwave'. Luckily this time he was feeling a bit uninspired and I knew it so I took advantage of him. cause that is how marriage really works.

So this week at Kelly's Korner it's all about baby/kid rooms. So I am going to cut to the chase and show you my furbaby baxter's room:

Now that we have that out of the way, I figured that I would link up to some of my favorites out of the 200+ blogs that linked up. NO, I am not so stalkerish that I read every single one. I tend to gravitate toward the ones that say something about traditional classic or vintage have cute baby names like Rhett. I stray from people who use descriptions like neon, princess, dinoland, theme room or name their child Jubilee.

Note: I don't mean to make fun as everyone is entitled to their own taste. I mean I would LOVE to name my future daughter Weslee and decorate her room all white with burlap accents but apparently my husband thinks I might as well be suggesting the name Serial Killer and painting poo on the accent wall. But did I mention my husband wants to name his son Jack? Our last name is Daniel people. Moving on...(for now)

LOVE! This is a historic home and I LOVE that she knows about all of the old owners and history of the house. The nursery is beautiful but I had fun touring her whole house. I prefer a little less antiques but she pulls it off quite nicely.

Show us Your Life: Office

Ok so over at Kelly's Korner she does "Show us Your Life" post and I have always wanted to participate but last year I didn't have a blog. This year she started over with rooms in your home and I got super excited to participate but then I realized I hate the IPAD and can't upload pics so the weeks have gone by and I have already missed dining room and living room so maybe one day I will just do one big post showcasing my mediocre decorating skills and all my white walls cause I am lazy and we rent so I don't want to paint and have to repaint and even more awesome I am cheap so I'm not paying anyone else to paint something that I will probably grow to hate 3 months later because I have that pesky gene known as CHRONIC INDECISIVENESS. Thanks mom. So now that I have you all pumped up and on the edge of your seats about all the inspiration I have hiding in my apartment, today will be a teaser of how wonderfully talented I am because today is "Show us Your Office" (okay Friday was, whatev.) and I did figure out how to email myself pictures off my IPhone so I feel kinda bad cause I'm totally gonna show Jessica up when it comes to photography skills (sorry girl but don't worry I can help you out sometime). LADIES AND GENTS......

I know I know, how do I do it? Oh wait, you are literally asking how do I work in my office without at chair? Well, I don't. I have been looking for the perfect $3 chair to spruce up (read: I am cheap) but I have been looking for, oh about 16 months and I remember going to goodwill once with no luck. How do all these ladies find such deals and places to find such deals?

Let me show you where everything came from cause I know you are dying.

1.) Silver frame was actually a wedding present and is really pretty and my only legit fancy frame not from TJ max clearance shelf. It has a pic of Jay and I at our wedding rehearsal or as I refer to it our "skinny picture". Which is fun to look at but when someone you met more recently comes over and takes a look I know they are thinking....whoa my how things have changed. Luckily mission 'get back to wedding weight before the next big family wedding in November' has been in full force for a few months now and we are almost there!! Why are the last three lbs always the hardest? And why is it my husband able to bench press a paper clip twice a week and still loose 5 lbs?

2.) Its tragic that I don't have a closer shot but next to the frame is a painted rock that says Texas Tech Rocks. Its a wonder I haven't thrown it at the TV this season but we haven't really watched any games at home.

3.)Paper Organizer Tray Potter Barn wedding present from my Boss.

4.) Really slow computer cause it has all sorts of Auto CAD programs cause my husband spent 6 years in school for Landscape architecture. His job in Medical Sales/Management is going just fine thank you for asking.

5.) I had to include the open cabinets because they are newly organized! Cause I am awesome. Organizing boxes are from IKEA and are too big so the doors don't shut all the way but I had them when I moved in and did I mention I am cheap so I decided to just think like Tim Gunn.

5. Yes my dell that died 1 year and 2 days after I bought it is up in the top corner. Don't ask. Why? Cause I just explained.

So I promise the rest of my house does not look like a dorm room and maybe someday I can get my husband to remove the junk from his computer so it doesn't take me thru Sister Act I and II to get a single picture uploaded but clearly he needs that Auto CAD so I hate to ask for such a sacrifice.

FALLen' in Love

You see how I did that? I'm so clever with the Fall and Love and fallen stuff. This post is dedicated to Fall and what I am excited about this year!!!

1. STEW - my mom makes the best stew and we are going to Dallas for the Tech game and she has promised to make it for me!!

I also bought all the ingreedients to make it not knowing she was already planning to make it so now my modivation for trying to make it on my own is gone but i have $9 of meat in my fridge to make it...Who will win?! my lazyness or my love of stew. I will let you know. Heck, i might get crazy and post a recepie. Gasp, but I would feel like a fraud considering its like the 3rd thing I have ever made in 15 months of marriage. Heck, in 25 years of life.

2. Football

Wrecked Tech- Yeah whateve I know support your team no matter what, move on from Leach blah blah. Well guess what, I was born and raised in Lubbock, went to jr high with Coach Leach's daughter, went to and graduated from Tech at the peak of the crazy awesome Leach era. I saw the rise and fall and the fall still hurts. I am more sad for all us wonderful Tech fans out there who had their joy stolen by some greedy power hungry idiots (take your pick, meyers, hance, craig james, adam james....). I can't help the what if's of what our record could have been this year and what if i had driven all the way to lbk for a win against Texas and what if I wasn't shaking in my boots that I paid money to go see us play Baylor. Does that make me less of a Red Raider? NO. I bleed Red and Black. It just hurts to right now and I'm not going to pretend it doesn't or that I don't doubt this Tuby guy. He knew what he was getting himself into. He has to earn my love just like Leach did. Oh and this is my blog so I can think and say what I want. So there.

Oh Cowboys, my grandfather Big Daddy would roll over in his grave if I ever spoke ill of you or cheered against you. However, I have never been closer than when you played the Texans whom I have grown to love over the last 4 yrs (half of thier existance so I think that makes me a pretty legit fan). You just make it so hard with your crazy overpriced tickets and your consistant

inconsistancy(ha). It will be a lifelong battle to love you but I will never give up on you. For better or for worse.

3. Weather - I have already said my peace about Houston weather so I am loving it so much I ran 4 miles and walked three on Saturday. YEAH, bout that. I don't really do that FYI, but it was just so perfect I wanted to keep going. Although it isn't always a super drastic change of color, there are trees here to admire too....

4. This year we have a few fall weddings which are soooo beautiful. I often thought that had I not had to wait on Jay for 9+ yrs to get married, I would have held out 4 more months to do a fall wedding. I stand firm in the belief that the look of sanity on my sweaty face that blistering hot and windy June day was more beautiful than anythink I might have mustered up after waiting one more second to tie the knot no matter how may cornicopias of wheat bouquets and huntergreen bridesmaid dresses, orange yellow and burgundee flowers I could have hid behind.

5. Halloween! Last year Jay and I were John and Kate plus 8. Renting 6 kids is EXPENSIVE. Ok not really I made kids out of cardboard. Then I ended up in the church quarterly mailout and you couldn't really tell it was a costume. I just looked like a mom, it was scary. Where do we go? Oh Second Baptist Houston, it's not like its one of the biggest churches in Houston or anything... but even more awesome was my friend in the picture who was a positive pregnancy test. Case of double mistaken identity. A mom and a nurse? No. Kate Gosslin and a positive pregnancy test. This year I asked Jay if he would be Snookie and I could tell he legitimately thought it over. And thats why have FALLen in love with him. (Yeah I know, but corn is fallish too.) (Okay I really promise to now stop with the lame jokes)

Wreck em' Tech em'

As a blog stalker I get quite annoyed when people stop posting. And when the blogs who post daily skips a few days I feel a little part of me die. (By they way, HOW, HOW do they do it? I can't think of something interesting to say on a weekly basis.) Anyways, so it has now been like a while since I posted and I would hate to think I am causing all my readers out there to wallow in the anguish of not knowing whether I did absolutely nothing this weekend or met and had an affair with number one on 'my list' (ehem, john stamos). Although I am sure both of those prospects sound incredibly interesting to you, I'm gonna let you guess which is true.

Moving on, I have composed 3 full blog post about or recent vacation complete with horrible jokes and a bunch of blah blah I relaxed a lot, blah blah I saw beautiful things, blah blah I ate bone marrow (ALL TRUE) but lack the photos. Unfortunately Jay bought us an IPAD and apparently I cant upload pictures to blogger via IPAD. Reason number 387 I think IPADs are pointless not to mention the fact the name still makes me uncomfortable. And he had to buy the more expensive IPAD so we could run the Internet on 3G and cancel our home wireless Internet but now I have to bootleg our neighbors if I want it to work on our crappy laptop but right now theirs is not working (hi Joe and Lisa-how about yall get on that?) so that was all you didn't need to know about why i have not posted my on my blog in a while.

So lets bypass the vacation posts for now and sometime around Easter you can see what we did.

Whew. Now we will be moving on to the 'what I've been doing lately' portion of the post:

1. A few Sundays ago we went to the Ballet! It was Jay's first time and I kind of had to pull him away from the Texans game by telling him he would get to see the Cowboys play tonight (yes now we wish we had not wasted precious sleep hours to watch the Cowboys shoot themselves in the foot again-what kind of Cowboy does that like all the time- and instead watch the Texans beat the Colts)

Our neighbor, Peter, who dances in the Houston ballet got us tickets and he was INCREDIBLE. He had pretty major parts in all three pieces and just blew me away. Ladies he is single, straight one of the nicest guys I've ever met and wore something like this in the first segment

Yep. and he looks pretty much like this guy with blond hair. A few days later Peter came down to the pizza party at our apartment and Jay was all like, "So you can eat pizza and still have all those muscles we saw you have going on last weekend? Man, that first outfit was a doosie!"

My name is Kylee and I am married to a man. A man who could make a grown heterosexual ballerino uncomfortable.

2. This past weekend we made the drive to Lubbock, aka Satan's highways. I try to think of it like I often take "the road less traveled" which is supposed to be a good thing.....but let me tell you what.. THERE IS A REASON PEOPLE DO NOT DRIVE FROM HOUSTON TO LUBBOCK AND BACK WHILE DETOURING TO DALLAS BOTH WAYS TO GET THEIR MOTHER. Especially when your football team has a new really boring, offensively challenged coaching staff. My new fav blogger Mr. Batch is in a better place than I so that is all I am going to say about that. But it was wonderful to be home even if for a short while as I got to have a one guys calazone and spankys fried cheese. Halleluia amen for God's country.

3. I started a new bible study yesterday! I am really excited to feel connected again. You see once upon a short time ago Jay and I got married and joined the newlywed class at our church and met all sorts of great friends that were in the same stage of life and looking for friends! We had quite the little group going between us and 3 or 4 other couples! BUT THEN stuff happened. Wonderful stuff like house purchases in the suburbs and babies and new jobs in new cities for everyone (but us). We found ourselves back at church one Sunday pretty much at square one not knowing anyone. So we have joined a new Sunday School class and we LOVE the teachers and the people are so sweet. At first Jay was worried cause all the other couples were so cute and seemed so cool. I just had to remind him that we were too. I know, I lied in church, whatev.

4. We will be out of town again this weekend for a church retreat about an hour away and we are really excited to see what God has planned for this weekend of restoration and learning! (And swimming and concession stands and trust falls)

The Real World

The real world is hard. I'm not talking about the MTV show cause that's not hard. Living in a fancy house rent free for several months with no responsibilities to speak of - besides making sure you roommate doesn't vomit on your stuff while stumbling to the community bathroom after a long night-is not hard. But I don't like to talk about that show cause I use to watch all the old people who didn't have to answer to their parents (at least they weren't acting like it on the show) and were so mature and good looking and had great style including but not limited to overalls, doc martins, denim vests and bangs. But now all I see are hopelessly insecure really unstable kids put in a very unsafe and unhealthy environment dressing quite scandalously. They must have changed the casting strategy (OR I AM JUST FREAKIN OLD NOW).
So back to the real real world....
Sunday night at 8:00pm Jay and I returned from a PERFECT 9 day vacation and getting up for work on Monday morning was brutal. Then stepping on the scale to asses the damage was more brutal then showing up to work with a weeks worth of work piled up and a full week ahead was most brutal. Once I get back on central time so that waking up at 5:30am doesn't feel like 3:30am, I will be sure to have posts full of trip pics cause everyone loves to look at how much fun someone else got to have, right? Besides this is the first actual newsworthy event I have had to blog about since I started this thing!

My Husband is Coming Home, Crappy Graphics and 1 Irrelevant but Pretty One!

One of my favorite things to do is make my writing more interesting with graphics. What I want to know is how all these people find these beautifully unique photographs that tie perfectly with their writings! For example, this post was going to be a quick ode to my husbands return after a 5 day business trip. So, I go to google images these are the following graphics that my searches produced:
1. ‘Husband comes home’
I have to admit he does kinda look like Jay but as I look more I am really confused…Did she shave her own head and if so why, and why is she mad at him for not liking it? So clearly he does not have a thing for Mr. Clean-and that’s a good think by the way. Does he have growths all over his face and arms? Is that a tucked in t-shirt?!

2. So I figure I should clarify and google, ‘Yay Husband Comes Home’
I don’t even know what to say here.

3. It is now clear I need to be more specific with my search. What about ‘Husband Home from work trip’

OK YEAH that would NOT send the right message. And it's really creepy looking. Could you imagine if that was the first think you saw when getting to my blog!? I would loose all four readers!! (Shout out Ashley, Danielle, Diana and Jessica)

Then I give up and realize this post started out as a quick 'yay hubby comes home tonight/sweet couple pic', and has totally spiraled out of control into a long drawn out post about how I can't make my original post happen. It is now painfully clear I will never be able to make a living blogging about random crap like I have hoped and dreamed.

In closing I am really excited to see my husband and I have missed him. Oh and check out this awesome professional blog caliber picture I found someone else find that has nothing to do with my original topic!!!

RANDOM Ramblings...

• I am hungry. A lot. The hubby and I have been trying to get down to pre marriage weight and it's no fun. Little did I know when I was a 5'10" 4th grader being called the jolly green giant by the school bully Bubba Owens that I would appreciate that height when I gained a few lbs in my 20ies and you really couldn't tell. However, those "few lbs" have turned in to more than a few and now I wish I was about 6'4".


• I still have not picked the pictures for my wedding album. It's been 14 months.


• Jay and I went to Costco last weekend to get him some new jeans. Don't laugh because no starched Levis here, last time we were there they had sevens for guys! Wait is it even funnier that we were excited about that? Bad news, they were out but they had them for girls! $62.50 later I had me some fall jeans. You know cause its like 98 degrees out. (where is the degrees sign on the computer so I don't have to keep typing it out?)


• I HATE when people bad mouth Houston and it happens often. Usually they have never been here or spend about 1 day in August here for a trip to Astroworld (now closed). Well let me tell you something, we didn't get 2.3 million residents in the city (6 mill counting surrounding cities) by being a crappy place to live. Yes 2-3 months out of the year the weather is rough no doubt but hey I work during the day. And guess what, Dallas has basically the same weather but hotter temps and a bit less humidity (8% difference on ave annually but when you are looking at 80% humidity whats another 8%) but I'm not going to stoop to the level of badmouthing other peoples towns because then I can't complain about people doing that to me. There is so much to do, see, eat (obviously I have discovered that), a great mix of native good ole boys and interesting, friendly foreigners, great jobs, great churches, great spring, great fall, great winter, AND its home. SO LOCK IT UP HATERS. :)


• I have no idea what to pack for our trip cause its like high in the low 60ies!! YAY!


• My work buddy quit. Now the closest woman my age is probably 10 yrs older and not a talker like my current work buddy :( Goodbye work Ashley, I hope you and Edgar have a wonderful life together as I will with Baxter, I mean Jay.

.....like I get to in two weeks when I go on vacation to Carmel, Napa and San Francisco. All with my bff/husband who also happens to be hilarious, super thoughtful, really really really rediculously good looking, and after almost 10 years of being together still challenges me to be better than I was the day before.

Thats right people. No typo here. On August 10, 2000 Jay asked me to be his girlfriend outside of tinseltown movie theater.

So although I am full of hopes and dreams for our future including houses and babies and jobs we truly love, I want to be grateful and present for today's blessings and challenges. God has blessed us with a wonderful place to live and serve others, put wonderful people in our lives, provided steady jobs and the freedom to focus much of our time on us and building a marriage that will last. I pray all I truly desire for our future is God's plan and not the one I dream up because His will be so much greater!
